She loved early Marrakech mornings in spring.

The nights were still cool,

but the sun
was already warming the buildings
that winter had left chilled.

Flowers were exploding everywhere,
and the scent
of
orange blossom
already starting becoming a faded sherished memory.

From a friend’s apartment,
she had an amazing view
of the Koutoubia Mosque.

Around 4,
the early morning call to prayer
drifted into the room.

Just enough to make her realise she had a choice.

Watch the sunrise,
or turn around and drift back into sleep.

She didn’t remember making a choice.

When she woke,
the day was simply unfolding.

Life outside
was slowly catching up
with the climbing sun.

No one seemed to question
where they were going.
Some appeared to be following a destiny already written for them.

Others sat beneath an orange tree,
quietly contemplating
nothing in particular.

There was no judgment.
Only observation

light warming old walls
A city slowly waking
Mornings ask nothing
